--Artist Statement-- "My earliest memories involve a fascination with details, colors and texture. When I was four, sitting on a sunny beach, I discovered that the pink sand was not sand at all, but microscopic, perfectly formed, individual seashells. I loved iridescent spiders and beetles, seed pods, stamens, textures of bark, whorls of new leaves or any strange, small found object, whether natural or man made. I picked them up and placed them in my treasure box. Still do. In Paris, on New Year's Day, I noticed pieces of green plastic "twigs" littering the sidewalks and gutters. They had broken off synthetic brooms used by hard working street cleaners sweeping up the debris from the previous night's festivities. I picked them up and now, through the sea change of lost wax casting, Parisian broom bristles are a part of my art. What excites and inspires me most is the challenge of taking interesting objects, whether trash, texture or seed pod, and transmuting them through molten silver or gold (sometimes sprinkled with gems), into precious jewelry. I love this creative process; it keeps me vibrantly alive, all my waking hours."
